Scouts

What is Scouts all about?

Scouts is the third section in Scouting, and is for boys and girls aged 10½ to 14.

Scouting is about personal development through providing opportunity. It encourages young people of all backgrounds, male and female, to have self-belief and a voice; to develop physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually. We call this everyday adventure, they just call it fun.

We believe that young people develop most when they are ‘learning by doing’, when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves. Why do we believe that? Well, because they told us. Scouting is a youth movement, meaning it’s the young people that drive it forward.

So if you are looking to have a fun time, whilst learning new skills and making new friends then scouting is the place for you.

For more information on Scouting please visit the Scout Association website.

When do we meet?

We meet on Fridays from 7pm – 9pm during the school terms at Deer Park Road, Hucclecote, Gloucester, GL3.

What do we wear?

After you have been for a couple of weeks, you will be invested into Scouting. Once invested Scouts are expected to wear the official ‘bottle green’ shirt and neckerchief to every meeting. We also have a group T-Shirt (available to purchase from us) that is worn as an alternative on certain activities along with their neckerchief.

For parades, such as St George’s Day and Remembrance Day, full uniform is a must.

Scout Uniform shirts can be purchased from the Scout Shop, based at Murray Hall in Tuffley, or alternatively it can be purchased from the School Shop in Gloucester Town (please note that each shop works independently so items cannot be exchanged between them).

Please follow this link for details of where badges go on the uniform.

How much does it cost?

The subscription cost for Scouts is currently £12 a month per young person. This cost goes towards weekly meeting fees, badges, running costs of the Group such as equipment and hall maintenance and the annual ‘capitation fee’ payment to The Scout Association.

To keep costs down though, we run a few fundraising events throughout the year which we hope parents/carers will help with.

Keeping in touch

Once a scout has been invested we will invite parents/carers to become members of our closed Facebook page where you will be kept up-to-date with news and photos from meetings and events; please search for ’11th Hucclecote Scouts (Parents)’ or click the link below
