Explorers
What is Explorers all about?
Try more. See more. Do more. At Explorers you’ll get the chance to dream big, find your place in the world and make memories to last a lifetime.
Our Explorer unit is called ‘Javelin’, named after the fighter jet designed and built by the Gloster Aircraft Company during the 1950’s/60s. Our unit isn’t quite that old but has been in existence since Venture Scouts was a thing and kept the name when Explorer Scouts were created in 2002.
Explorers are a go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 18. Together, we make up the fifth section of the Scouts. You could be brand new to Scouting and join, moved through the sections at 11th Hucclecote or transferred from another Scout troop in the District…..all are welcome at Javelin ESU!
When do we meet?
We meet on Fridays from 7:00pm – 9:00pm
We meet at the 11th Hucclecote Scout hut on Deer Park Road.
What do we wear?
For weekly meetings we wear our navy blue Javelin ESU t-shirts and multi-coloured
neckerchiefs. These can be purchased directly from the Group.
For more formal occasions and if you are a Young Leader, you will be required to
wear to the official Explorer shirt and your necker. The shirt can be purchased from
the Scout Shop, based at Murray Hall in Tuffley, or alternatively it can be purchased
from Monkhouse (uniform shop) on Northgate Street, Gloucester. You can also order
the shirts directly from the online Scout Store.
The diagram below indicates where each of the badges an Explorer may have should be sewn onto their shirt.
